My husband and I collect shot glasses on every vacation or new place we travel too. I thought it would be pretty neat to use these instead of the little plastic cups (Obviously if you are transporting these you would want to use the disposable cups with lids). Plus I want tell you about a few of my favorites that we’ve collected.
Starting with one of the best trips we’ve been on…
My husband and I spent a week honeymooning at a resort on a small Caribbean island called Grenada, back in May 2015. Known as the “Island of Spice”, Grenada is truly an exotic paradise. I wish I could say the Margaritas were just as spectacular, but they were really nothing to write home about. It was an All-Inclusive resort so my guess is they probably use a cheaper tequila.
I wanted to mention Myrtle Beach because there is a little restaurant located there, called Banditos, that just may have the GREATEST Margarita. One of the waiters told me they make their own Margarita mix from scratch. Whatever they are doing, they’re doing it right! The drinks are seriously amazing.
My Great Aunt still lives there and I cannot wait to go back for a visit to give their Margarita a proper review, so stay tuned… (Can I also mention their plantains are out of this world!)
My mom would kill me if I put her face on the Internet… But here we are at Banditos, enjoying multiple Margaritas!
I have a special place in my heart for Rehoboth Beach. I have lost count of how many times I’ve visited. It’s been about 3 years since my last trip but I even had my bachelorette party in Dewy Beach (the town next door) but that’s a story for another time!
Dos Locos Fajita & Stonegrill is right off Rehoboth Avenue. I’ve eaten here a handful of times and the food is always delicious! They have some of the biggest Margarita glasses I’ve ever seen, plus you can order Margaritas by the pitcher. Yes, please!!!
This is my gal pal, Jenn, at one of our visits to Dos Locos. She has been on many of my Margarita voyages and is always giving me great ideas. She’s a talented photographer too, check out her amazing beach views and coastal scenery https://www.instagram.com/_coastalheart_/
This last shot glass, may have the most disappointing story behind it…
My husband and I booked a trip to go Nashville, Tennessee for our 3rd wedding anniversary. But two months after we booked the trip, I discovered that I was expecting our second child.
My first son was 21 months old at the time and since I wasn’t going to be drinking, we decided to bring him along. Keep in mind it’s a 9 hour car ride from where we live in Virginia and I am 5 months pregnant at this point. Not really sure what we were thinking…
So unfortunately, I can’t tell you if the Margaritas are good in Nashville, but I do know it’s no place for children or pregnant women!
Time for shots!!!
So I sent my husband out to the grocery store to buy the lime Jell-O and these are what he came back with. After looking at the ingredients, I actually used the regular gelatin, even though it contains 19 g of sugar! I am sure both taste similar but I try to avoid Aspartame and Maltodextrin.
I can’t even remember the last time I ate Jell-O, it’s not something I really even enjoy. But throw in some Tequila and count me in!
Here are the other ingredients:
- 1 Box of Lime Gelatin (3 oz)
- 1 cup Hot Water
- 1/8 cup Cold Water
- 1/8 cup Lime Juice
- 3/4 cup Tequila
- 1/4 cup Cointreau
- In a medium pot bring 1 cup of water to a boil.
- Rim 12 shot glasses with salt. Will not work if using plastic or disposable cups.
- Add lime gelatin to boiling water, dissolve completely
- Allow gelatin to cool for a few moments and add lime juice, 1/8 cup of cold water, tequila and Cointreau.
- Pour into shot glasses with a little room to spare at the top
- Place in the refrigerator between 2-4 hours to set.
I actually like these Jell-O shots- It tastes much like a Margarita, maybe a little sweeter. I think these would be great for summertime parties, just keep away from children! I hope you enjoy these as much as I did, Salud!
